A 19th century American silver vase
Gorham, Providence Rhode Island, date code for 1881, also stamped STERLING, 'D38' and 'N'
Of rounded square form in two tiers, the smaller neck sat atop a bulbous square base, a monogram engraved to one side of the neck featuring a gothic 'C', the whole intricately chased with Japanese influenced decoration of fluttering butterflies, delicately defined raspberries, scrolling leaves and stems, various flowers and a flying swallow, naturalistically flowing around all sides against a plain polished ground, all sat on a well cast square base, semi-circular cut-outs to each side, embossed high and low relief Japanese scenes, with carp, native flowers including cherry blossoms and traditionally dressed oriental figures against a matt speckled ground, height 29cm, weight 37oz.

Hallmarks to underside of the base good and clear.
Decoration remains well defined.
One of the rounded sides to the body has three small scuff marks and some light contact marks (see image). Another side also has another small dent/scuff.
Otherwise light surface wear.
Otherwise condition is good.
