Three small unframed works by Marion Huse (American, 1896-1967): "Parent Child", oil on canvas, signed LL, abstract composition with two figures outlined in black, the taller figure leans over the smaller white figure, the background is predominately warm shades of red and brown, paint thickly applied in areas, unframed, wear/loss to edges, small scratches, 16" h. x 20" w.; along with "Figure Study- Women With Bread", oil on canvas, unsigned, semi-abstract depiction of two women facing one another, both women hold long loaves of bread in their arms, depicted in dark tones and with limited detail, background is yellow and gray, unframed, minor wear to edges, 16" h. x 12" w.; along with "Sisters", signed LR, oil on canvas, portrait of two women sketched in black and set against green, red and brown background, thick brush strokes, unframed, missing nails along right side, some minor abrasions, 20" h. x 16" w. [Works by Marion Huse are currently being offered at Vose Galleries and Childs Gallery, and have been sold by Spanierman Gallery in the past. This work was given to the Brockton Art Museum (MA) by the artist's husband, Dr. Robert Barstow; the BAM in turn gifted the Huse Collection to the New Britain Museum of American Art which later chose to sell some Huse works through auction at Winter Associates, Inc., CT]
