A fantastic modern collage mixed media drawing on drafting paper by the one of the founders of Cubism, George Braque. An interesting composition with a bold yellow organic shape in the center, that is pasted on top of black and white grid paper, surrounded by lines of blue and green. Braque was most celebrated for his collage work, so this a rare opportunity to own a signature piece by the modern master. Signed in pencil on the bottom right. Dimensions: 8.5h x 11.5w (unframed). By trade this art dealer was a teacher, but in the 1970s he started collecting and selling art as a supplement income. This turned into a successful business, and he traveled the globe internationally with his son sourcing original artworks by famous modern and post-war artists, as well as Asian and African artifacts. The art dealer is now retired and lives outside of Detroit, Michigan. George Braque (1882-1963) was a major 20th-century French painter, collagist, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. His most notable contributions were in his alliance with Fauvism from 1905, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. He is one of the most renowned artists of the 20th century and worked alongside Picasso between 1907 and 1914. Today Braque is in several permanent collections of museum and institutions internationally.
