A magnificent, original, abstract acrylic painting on canvas titled Phenomena by Agamenon. The painting is hand signed in white acrylic on the front top left by Paul Jenkins. The verso is also signed by the artist, titled, and annotated Paris 1963. This is an incredible example of Jenkin's signature abstraction style that represents a sense of spirit and vitality. The rich purple and vibrant blue colors are described as gem-like veils of transparent and translucent color. Since the 1960s, most of Jenkin’s paintings have Phenomena in the title. Jenkin’s referred to himself as an Abstract Phenomena, where his paintings would flow out of him with no preconceived notion, as if they were created by a medium. This painting was part of a collection of a seasoned art expert who amassed an impressive collection of 500+ artworks and artifacts in his lifetime. Many of these items were acquisitions from the Kresge Foundation in Detroit. Dimensions: 26.5h x 22.25w. In very good vintage condition. Paul Jenkins (1923-2012) was an influential post World War II American abstraction and is much identified with the process of controlled paint-pouring. His first solo exhibition in New York was in 1956 with the Martha Jackson Gallery, a leading gallery of the time, and with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York purchasing a painting from the exhibition success followed. In 1959, Peggy Guggenheim purchased a Paul Jenkins painting from the artist's studio in Paris further cementing his status.
