A stunning textural carved painting of a European village by French artist Jean-Claude Gaugy. Created July 20, 1974 which is documented on the verso. Dimensions: 23.75h x 32w (framed). In excellent vintage condition. Jean-Claude Gaugy (1944- ) is a contemporary French artist known for his painted relief sculptures of crystalline abstractions of figures, landscapes, and still lifes. Gaugy works within the traditions of early European Modernist painters such as Paul Klee and Georges Braque, referring to his work as Linear Expressionism. His clients include the Rockefeller Foundation, The Hermitage Museum, The Hirshorn, and Smithsonian Institute, and he created a 30 foot mural at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.
