Description
DIAGHILEV SERGEI: (1872-1929) Russian ballet impresario, art critic and patron who founded the Ballets Russe. Ink signature ('Exped. Serge de Diaghilev') as part of the return address to the verso of an envelope, above the printed name of the Grand Hotel at 12 Boulevard des Capucines, Paris. The 'Express' envelope is addressed by Diaghilev to Serge Lifar at the Hotel Cavour in Milan and bears several French postage stamps and cancellations, one dated 9th March 1928. With Lifar's personal purple ink cachet to the verso. Slightly irregularly torn to the lower edge where originally opened. A good association piece. About VG Serge Lifar (1905-1986) French ballet dancer and choreographer of Ukrainian origin, one of the greatest male ballet dancers of the 20th century.
