Ram Kumar,India,1924-2018
Depicts a landscape scene comprised of deep green, red, blue, white, yellow, and orange. Kumar was a prolific artist that has been considered one of India's leading modernist painters and one of the most important abstract painters of Modern India. He was associated with the progressive artists group along with other influential artists such as M. F. Husain, Tyeb Mehta, and S. H. Raza. From 1949 to 1952 after studying economics, Kumar studied at the Sarada Ukil School of Art in New Delhi before traveling to Paris to study art under Andre Lhote and Fernard Leger. In 1969, Kumar travelled to the United States and Mexico on a Rockefeller Scholarship with much of his following works reminiscent of his travels to Northern India, Machu Picchu, and the Buddhist monasteries of Ladakh. Kumar's career has been highlighted by numerous solo exhibitions and retrospectives in Bombay, New Delhi, and Kolkata with group shows in Geneva, Paris, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Venice, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and the Arts Council of Great Britain. He was also awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan Awards. In 1993, Kumar was honored with a retrospective of his works shown at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.

Purchased directly from the artist by a Chicago based collector in 2015 and is currently from the collection of a Massachusetts estate. Painting will be accompanied with a certificate of restoration.

Unframed, has been cleaned, fixed delamination, has been flattened, repaired tear, areas with inpainting, and put on a new stretcher, a report will be included with full explanation of repairs, otherwise displays beautifully.
