Description
Second half 19th century, pin. Nailed construction with incised compass stars and carved fans. Layers of green and orange paint. Divided interior and thick, padded pincushion lid. Reputedly a sail maker's box. Wear, and loss to ribbon trim on lid. 7.5"h. 16.5"w. 7"d. Ex Patricia Stauble, (Maine).
Condition
Iron nails but not square. Stained interior with loss to one corner. Pincushion top complete but worn. Thin green paint is not original, it is an overpaint with faint evidence of green/blue underneath. Most likely the orange is an overpaint also. Edge wear and some corner loss.
