Japanese Takeda Ningyo doll of Kabuki actor
22 inches high x 8 in. deep x 11 1/4 in. wide
The figure from head to toe measures 12 in
Japanese Takeda Ningyo depicting a Kabuki actor in a fierce role with brocade costumes and exaggerated positions, complimentary chirimen sleeves embroidered with a carp leaping from the waves. He holds a tall halberd. The head carved of wood covered in gofun with painted features in the mie expression and attached hair on the sides and top knot. He stands with his right foot propped on a tree stump and the left foot outstretched with big toe pointing up displayed on his own black lacquered stage box base with inset embroidered panel characteristic of Takeda Ningyo. Edo period. Circa 1840.

Good condition overall; one small crack to the gofun on the chin, other minor signs of wear.
