Lovis studied at the Königsberg Art Academy and was a student of Otto Günther. Lovis focused on painting portraits and landscapes, creating thousands of paintings, watercolor drawings and prints. In addition, he wrote books and essays for several art magazines. Lovis Corinth is considered one of the most eminent and influential of the German Impressionists. His later works are often considered to be a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. Today, his works can be found in national and international galleries and museums. A large part of his oeuvre is privately owned. Lovis Corinth died in 1925, in Amsterdam.
