MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI David standing, sword in lowered right hand, sack in the left, the head of Goliath on the ground beneath him Vintage Etching Print, original etching circa 1506, lower inscription shows combined initials MAF (later artist of original etching was Francesco Francia), subject shows David standing with the head of Goliath at his feet, in his right hand is his sword and in his left is a sack. Window measures approx 6 3/4 x 4 1/4 in., frame measures approx 11 1/2 x 9 in., black and brown toned wood frame, piece is loose in frame, surface wear to frame, professionally framed, not examined out of frame. Marcantonio Raimondi, often called simply Marcantonio (c. 1470/82 – c. 1534), was an Italian engraver, known for being the first important printmaker whose body of work consists largely of prints copying paintings. He is therefore a key figure in the rise of the reproductive print. He also systematized a technique of engraving that became dominant in Italy and elsewhere.
