Description
Excessively rare pair of World War I-era pilot's gloves with built-in tachometer, most often used by test pilots to calculate their speed between two fixed points. The leather gloves (actually, gaunlets) measure 14 in. long overall and a steel-cased 2 in. dia. tachometer is contained within a specially-fitted leather pouch sewn to the right-hand glove. The tachometer, in operable condition, is set up in a decimal manner, a minute reduced to ten units and numbered from 3000 to 60. It is marked 'FLZ' on the back of the case, this representing the German Technical Organization setting standards for all German military aircraft during World War I. Stitching to the fingertips on a few fingers has sprung, else very good. Very rare.
