Description
Good lot of material concerning the service of 'Vizefeldwebel Johann Sprich, includes: the German Colonial Decoration (Lowenorden) 1st Class (in silver), awarded to former soldiers from the Schutztruppe, the East Asian Expeditionary Force, the occupation forces in China and the Navy when they were deployed off the coasts of the colonies. Sprich was attached to Seebattalion III at Tsingtao; the handsome hand-colored award certificate for the medal, 9.5 x 12.5 in., named to Sprich and signed in facsimile by FRANZ VON EPP; the receipt for the medal which states Sprich's rank and service in the III Seebattalion; a May 23, 1940 award document from Bulgaria for World War I service; and a printed explanatory notice concerning the Bulgarian award. Overall very good. While the Lion Order is not especially rare, its award to one serving in China is very rarely seen.
