Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue and White Peacock Porcelain Jar. Potted into jar shape, having thick and tall, globular body, heavy on shoulder gently tapered on short neck, round mouth lip and raised on ring foot base slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white and blue color, depicted of peacock standing surrounded with scrolling ruyi, flaming vapors and flowers bloom. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under glaze greyish - blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue - black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design.The underside unglazed, revealed the pale - creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge - cut foot rim.
