FUJITA FUMIO (b. 1933) was born in Aichi province in 1933. He graduated in 1955 from the renowned Musashino College of Fine Arts. In 1963 Fumio Fujita began to make woodblock prints in moku hanga style - self-carved and self-printed. His subjects are usually landscapes reduced to the essentials of design and lines, but without becoming abstract. His later designs often show woods and are more stylized. The artist's works are very popular and are highly sought collectors. He recently retired from making woodblock prints and now, nearing 90 years of age, only paints.
