Famous panoramic view of the small city of San Francisco, buildings slowly creeping up the hills, boats crowding the harbor. Drawn and first published in 1849, this is the third of three 1849 states, identifiable by the 51 identified locations in the key in lower margin. There were a number of later 19th century re-issues. The name of the lithographer, Fishbourne's Lithog. San Francisco, Cal., is not present on the present copy, it having been trimmed off at the bottom edge of the margin. Affected also is the lower third of the final line of the title, "of San-Francisco, U.C." Reps 242; Baird & Evans 8c.
