Title: Map of Horner's Addition City of San Francisco Surveyed for John M. Horner by J.J. Gardiner City & County Surveyor, San Francisco June 1st 1854
Place Published: San Francisco
Publisher:
Date Published: 1854
Description:
Lithographed map with ink additions and emendations. 51.8x72.8 cm (20¼x28¾"), laid down on old cloth backing.
Rare cadastral map for one of the earliest suburbs of San Francisco, comprising parts of what are now the Mission and Noe Valley. With west at the top, the map covers from Valencia Street in the east to Diamond in the west, with Guerrero, Dolores, Silver, Crystal, and Pearl in between (Church, Sanchez, Noe, Castro and a few alleys now fill in from Dolores to Diamond). The east-west streets are named, not numbered as now, but a few of the street names remain, such as Elizabeth (between what is now 23rd and 24th), Hill (21st and 22nd), Corbett (at the far right, or north, which now morphs into 17th), and a few others. The main outline of the streets and blocks seems lithographed, with ink manuscript additions such as numbers in each of the blocks, a "Diagram of Subdivisions," and a few other notes. In the blank lower right is affixed a newspaper clipping from 1869, referring to a Board of Supervisor's finding on the Old San Jose Road. No copies listed in OCLC. A very rare and important map.
