From the Collection of Admiral Grindall, an Able Seaman aboard Captain Cook?s Resolution during his second circumnavigation; thence by direct descent through his family. A Maori nephrite jade (pounamu) ear ornament (tangiwai) or pendant (kuru) with a leather loop, measuring 4.5 inches in length. From New Zealand, 18th Century or earlier. Collected by Admiral Grindall whilst he was an Able Seaman aboard Captain Cook?s Resolutionduring his second circumnavigation. Compare a very similar ornament in the Museum of Australia?s James Cook Collection, registration # H000063.
