Biography: Born: 1911 - 1982. Hyde Solomon was born in 1911, in New York. He was an abstract painter, and studied at the Art Students League and Pratt Institute. Solomon was an artist-in-residence for four years at Princeton University. He helped found the Jane Street Gallery, an artists' cooperative in Greenwich Village. Over a seven year run, the gallery provided a place for young, burgeoning artists to showcase their work.The group started with a focus on abstraction, and over the years, many of the members began to seek a compromise between abstraction and representation. Other artists in the collective include Nell Blaine, Ida Fischer, and Larry Rivers, who had his first one-man show at the Jane Street Gallery in 1949.
