Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 22nd Dynasty, ca. 1069 to 720 BCE. A hand-built faience ushabti figure standing in mummiform with fused legs, all covered in soft green glaze. The figure holds a black-painted pick and hoe in hands crossed atop the chest and has a black-painted seed bag draped across both shoulders behind the back. The minimalist visage presents almond-shaped eyes beneath slender brows as well as a heart-shaped jawline, a tripartite wig with low relief lappets, and a black-painted headband tied behind the brow. A column of hieroglyphs is presented in front of the legs and, while untranslated, likely provides the name of the deceased.
