Vice Admiral Sir Peter Warren after the portrait by Thomas Hudson (1701- 1779), and now hanging in the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Early 19th century reverse painting on glass, gilt frame - pairing with lot 45.

Sir Peter Warren (1703-1752) was born in Ireland and began his colorful and profitable career in the British Navy at the age of 13. He spent most of his career in North America and the West Indies, where he commanded ships at Boston, New York, and Charleston. He defeated the French at Louisbourg, Nova Scotia. In 1731 married Susannah Delancey, sister of James Delancey, Chief Justice, and Lieutenant Governor of New York. Sight: 13.75" height, 9.75" width; frame: 17.75" height, 13.75" width
