Description
Vintage American New York Artist Jeffrey Ingram Stone, 15-color Lithograph SLR in pencil, dated 1975, titled "My Hero", also called "Portrait of Steve", 3/30, 37 3/4 x 29 5/8".
Early YearsJeffrey left Los Angeles in 1967 to attend graduate school at Pratt Institute. He stayed in New York for 40 years. Almost immediately, the intensity of New York City captured his imagination. As an ardent observer of the human condition Jeffrey was able to explore subjects not found any place else. Stone records, in some of his work done in NYC, the self-absorbed, hedonistic side of the city’s nightlife. His work is about reality. As a counterpoint to this, one sees the gentle images from time spent on Fire Island and sketches of varied subjects. Adding to this experience was a career as a highly respected teacher and professor at both high school and college levels.
After years of living in New York City, Jeffrey was looking for a place to relocate. After considering a number of places, he settled on Santa Barbara, California in 2008. The weather, ocean, light and family helped make the decision for him. In a way he has come back to his roots. Having grown up in the Los Angeles area, Santa Barbara has a somewhat familiar feeling for him.Living in Santa Barbara has had a profound effect on his work. Stone now finds himself experimenting with a sublime palette and subject matter. He continues to explore new concepts and challenges on the “left coast.”
