Description
A pair of Ottoman Mother-of-Pearl inlaid raised decorated wooden bath clogs. Turkey, Late 19th Century. Shoe measurement approx. 9ins L x 3ins W x 3ins H. These decorative wooden clogs were customarily worn by females, males and children during traditional Turkish bathing ceremonies, rituals and daily cleansing activities held at Turkish baths. Hand-crafted with a raised platform, they were known as Nalin in Turkish and designed to lift the wearers feet above the wet soapy floors. The clogs were worn during the Ottoman period and the early Turkish Republic. This Lot is held at Heritage of Civilization Gallery in the US and ships from this address.
