Description
Signed J. Kaptein. on lower right of painting on what seems to be a tattered sail. Signature / Artist may be different. Artist has not been identified. Setting seems to be from late 19th or early 20th century. Painting depicts a close up of three sailors aboard a ship very close to each other and maybe whispering; almost as if they are plotting to do something. Several ships can be seen in the distance.n Man in forefront has looped earring. Maybe they are pirates? Very unique lighting on each of the three painted faces. On the verso is a framing label from Essyx out of Johnson City, Tennessee. Painting is housed in wood gold painted frame. From inside frame, painting measures approximately 15.25 inches wide by 11.5 inches high. Outside of frame measures 22 inches wide by 18 inches high. Provenance: Obtained at an art auction in New England.
