F. OPPER Vintage Cartoon Strip Lithograph, printed inscription reads F. Opper, subject shows colonial people gawking at a man walking as he walks through the village. Verso indicates price was bought in 1939 by John Glendening. Measures approx 6 x 4 1/2 in., frame is approx 12 1/2 x 10 1/4 in., wood frame, surface wear to frame, professionally framed, not examined out of frame. Property of Greenwich, CT Estate. Frederick Burr Opper (January 2, 1857 – August 28, 1937) is regarded as one of the pioneers of American newspaper comic strips, best known for his comic strip Happy Hooligan. His comic characters were featured in magazine gag cartoons, covers, political cartoons and comic strips for six decades (Wikipedia). F.
