The first piece in the Unnatural Selections series, "Destination Unknown'' immortalizes the journey of three unlikely compatriots (an African wild cat, grey hornbill and marmoset monkey) in a post-apocalyptic future in which humankind no longer reigns supreme. Working under the pseudonym 'Anna Mills,' the artist, taxidermist, and provocateur contemplates a vaguely Orwellian world in which "The Great Chain of Being" is reshuffled and senscient animals reclaim dominion long-lost to humans in the primordial struggle for existence. With humans out of the picture, the newly anointed refuse to return to the "ancient ways." Instead, they form a new culture of pragmatic appropriation, collecting and curating the discarded vestiges of human society and celebrating them as objects of sublime utility.
