MID CENTURY PAINTER VAN HOOPLE BOATS IN HARBOR
Van Hoople (b. 1934) American, Oil on Board of boats in a harbor. The artist is Mid Century artist Van Hoople, who previously worked for Paramount Studios creating sets. He was hired by Hillside Galleries in LA to create one of a kind works of art for the gallery to sell. This is one of those, as it is stamped on the back with "Hillside Originals" and has a number written on it. (255 P). Before working for Paramount, Hoople attended the University of Texas and studied fine arts, after which he attended the Art Center in Los Angeles. He apprenticed for Cecil B. Demill's scenic art director, Mr. P.T. Blackburn, at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. His paintings are characterized by a Thick paint application, gouges and other textural interest.
