James Melville of Halhill was a 16th-century Scottish political delegate who is primarily remembered for his own memoirs. In this book, Memoirs of My Own Life, Melville wrote a valuable description of the end of the 1500s as well as the lives and reigns of Mary Queen of Scots and Henry II of France.



This 1683 first edition was published by Melvilles grandson, George Scott of Pitlochie who found the manuscript hidden in the Edinburgh Castle!
