Alice Harold Murphy was born in 1896 in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was a painter and engraver of figure studies and landscapes. Murphy studied art at Parsons School of Design, the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, and the Grand Chaumiere in Paris. During her successful career, Murphy received many awards from such institutions as the National Association of Women Artists (1946) the Springfield Museum of Art (1943), Best Prints of the Year (1936, 1942 & 1947) and the National Academy of Design (1951). Currently, paintings and engravings of Alice Harold Murphy are included in the following collections; the New York Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University of Maine, the Philadelphia Artist Alliance and the Library of Congress, Washington, DC. Murphy passed away in 1966.
