The author worked for four years, 1887-1891, as head of the soda water business at D.W. Saxe in Omaha, Nebraska, one of the largest such establishments in the west. In addition to soda water concoctions there are recipes for a variety of milk shakes, hot drinks, coffees, chocolates, teas, as well as fancy cakes and confectionaries.
The title continues: "...particular instruction is given as to how beverages should be served in the most attractive manner : also giving my latest formulae for fancy syrups and mixed drinks, containing all necessary information pertaining to the soda business, derived from an experience of ten years as an active dispenser and expert compounder in some of the leading establishments in the United States..."
