Item Details
Description
Robert "Bob" Rohm (American, b. 1948). Oil on canvas board, ca. 1990s. Signed on the lower right. A wonderful painting of the charming red and white San Simeon Hearst Castle School House on the William Randolph Hearst estate. The famous American newspaper publisher looked to castles and art he had seen when traveling throughout Europe as models for the opulent Hearst Castle located on the picturesque central coast of California. However, the relatively humble schoolhouse, built in 1881, contrasted with the grandeur of the Hearst Castle atop the hill. Generations of the Hearst's employees' children as well as Hearst's grandson, John Jr. attended the school. Bob Rohm's impressionist style announces its presence in his rendering of the verdant foliage and golden fields, as loose brushstrokes and confident palette knife work imbue the painting with undeniable liveliness. A very special painting that not only pleases the eye, but also documents a piece of American history! Size: 11.375" L x 15.375" W (28.9 cm x 39.1 cm) Size of frame: 19" L x 23" W (48.3 cm x 58.4 cm)

According to Sorrel Sky Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico (one of numerous esteemed galleries that represents Bob Rohm), "Perhaps best known for his radiant landscapes, Robert (Bob) Rohm’s paintings reflect the brilliance of the colors found in the clear, bright light of the Southwest. Although his work contains an enormous amount of detail, those details are transformed as he translates the world around him. This sense of poetry lends an almost abstract nature to his work.

Artist's Statement: "Bob has been painting most of his life, and received classical art training at the York Academy of Arts in Pennsylvania. Now a resident of Texas, his paintings reflect the brilliance of the colors found in the clear, bright light of the southwest. Known for his ability to capture the poetry of light, he has received many awards and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Oil Painters of America and the Outdoor Painters Society. He is the author of the book THE PAINTERLY APPROACH and has been featured in many publications including Southwest Art, American Artist, The Artist’s Magazine, The Pastel Journal, International Artist and Pure Color. Bob's painting approach has been the subject of several instructional DVD productions. His work is collected internationally and is represented by a number of fine galleries including Sorrel Sky in Santa Fe, RS Hanna in Fredericksburg, Aspen Grove Fine Arts in Aspen and Southwest Gallery in Dallas."
