Description
Ordovician Period, c.450 million years B.P. A well-detailed fossil trilobite nest in a matrix. See Seilacher, A., Trilobite Burrows, 2007, for further information. 650 grams total, 16.5 cm (6 1/4 in.) Private Shropshire, UK, collection. Referred to as a rusophycus, these nests are the result of a burrowing trilobite, leaving its mark in the soft sediment. The nests found, match trilobite bodies very precisely; these show that trilobites could burrow into sediment to feed or to avoid predators. [No Reserve]
