North America, United States, Colorado, Sterling, Eocene period, ca. 56 to 34 million years ago. An impressive fossil from an animal belonging to the now-extinct Megacerops genus featuring a sizable tooth in a jaw bone with wonderful snowy-white enamel. This rare find was discovered by V. B. Norris in North Reservoir Bank in Sterling, Colorado in September 14, 1971. Megacerops are extinct relatives of horses, rhinos, and tapirs; of which the Brontotherium was the largest, nearly as massive as a modern day African elephant. They had bony projections that looked like rhinoceros horns and that were covered in thick skin. Size: 5.71" W x 3.32" H (14.5 cm x 8.4 cm)
