Description
12.25" by 15.75". A member of the Navajo nation, Howard Gorman was one of three brothers: Ed, Carl and Howard, and well-known Navajo artist, R.C. Gorman was the son of Carl. Howard Gorman was primarily a writer, but also did the occasional painting. Three of his paintings, signed "H. Gorman" are in the collection of the Hubbell Trading Post at Ganado. One of the paintings is dated 1928 and another appears to be 1931. They are landscape scenes with Indians and horses. One of the writings of Howard Gorman is a story, The Long Walk of the Navajos, about the trip to Fort Sumner and reservation existence, imposed by the 'white men' in 1964. Gorman also wrote an introduction to the Navajo section of a book by Mary Pendleton, Navajo and Hopi Weaving Techniques. Allard Auction Collection Inv: KAP
