Description
An uncommon cloth map of South Africa, featuring lyrics to Rudyard Kipling's patriotic poem The Absent-Minded Beggar, set to music by Arthur Sullivan. Kipling wrote the poem in 1899 to raise funds for the Daily Mail's "Soldiers' Families Fund" during the Boer War and it was published in various forms. This map version shows both roads and railroads; embellished with portraits of Queen Victoria and Lord Roberts. Matted in painted wooden frame. Very good condition, with minimal foxing.
