Description
A spectacular Jacquard blue and white coverlet signed along the edge of top and bottom borders "A.M. Van Horne". The center of the coverlet decorated with 6 rings of flowers - the corners with woven motto "Agriculture & Manufacturing Are The Foundation Of Our Independence / July 4, 1827" . The top and bottom borders decorated with American spread wing eagles having monkeys and stags below the eagle's wings - each eagle is also flanked by double Masonic columns. The side borders decorated in a repeating pattern of 13 arched stars over 6 stars over a steeple building flanked by spread wing eagles - each arch is separated by double Masonic columns flanked by 2 standing men wearing top hats. The coverlet is in very good condition and measures 95" x 77". The weaver of this popular pattern is not known, and is thought that it was used by several weavers, most in NY State. Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
