Description

An unusual stoneware tri-handle loving cup marked in blue script in 3 areas between handles: "Fore Jim W. F. Donaldson / E.Y. Davis / Jamestown" - "Founders Town / D.B. Birney / June XXV / July XV" - "Kup Klub / W. L. Watson / 1890 1892". Our research indicates that all the men named were wealthy residents of Philadelphia, PA and summer residents of Jamestown, Rhode Island in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Dr D. B. Birney, William F. Donaldson and W. C Watson formed The Jamestown Club, a men's only social club, on June 21, 1890 which later merged with the Conanicut Yacht Club in the early 20th century. The cup is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It measures 7 1/2"H x 8"W x 6 3/4" diameter at base.
