Grouping of 3 vintage books including a schoolhouse handwritten district report from Connecticut, a child's scrap book, and a mourning album with hair samples, all early to mid 19th century. 1) A handwritten report of the Roxbury and Middletown School District 18, starting on January 1, 1840 and ending 1860 - including budget information including school taxes paid, names of parents, number of students including number of children attending school by each parent named, names of trustees. In 1840 there were 41 children attending school and in 1860 there were 46 children in attendance - Also, an 1852 entry indicates that the school house was built of framed timber in 1844 and was in good repair - Total of 74 pages written in pen and ink on both sides of page; 2) A near empty mourning scrap book with hair samples attached on several pages and several pages of death notices, some from Broome County NY including children, circa 1850; and a child's scrap book with newspaper lithographs attached to linen pages - a hand made book - lithographs include "John A. Kyle" a renowned flutist in the early 19th century, "The Wonderful Dutton Children" (midget sisters); some military including "Bringing Mexicans To The Point", lithograph of Dunnell Manufacturing Co.'s building in Pawtucket RI, Girard College in Phila., a rare lithograph of "Santa Claus" in front of chimney with bag of toys circa 1830-40, etc. - most pages with some foxing, but overall good condition. The largest book measures 8 1/2" x 6 3/4". Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
