Description
A folk art Mexican votive painting on tin, late 19th century. The story is told in the images in all 4 corners that depicts a padre being shot by an intruder - the central image of the padre and Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos. Illegible pencil inscription to the right of the padre in the central image. Some paint losses especially within the story panels in the bottom corners, loss to tin along the bottom and bottom right corner, some creases/dents in tin, overall fair condition. The votive mounted within a newer hand made tin frame. Total frame size 20" x 15 1/2" and the total size of the painting on tin 9 3/8" x 13 1/2". Provenance: From the Doris and Jerry Soldner collection, Lake Carmel NY (formally of Kingston NY).
