Description
Patek Philippe & Cie, Rare & Very Fine Gold Trip Minute Repeater, Two Train Tandem Wind Pocket Watch, circa 1904 Case: No. 238126, four body, bassine, 18k yellow gold, 47 mm, plain back, inner gold cuvette Dial: white enamel, Breguet numerals, subsidiary seconds, black minute track, gold Louis XV hands Movement: No. 125201, two train, double barrels with tandem winding, 36 jewels, counter poised straight line lever, bi-metallic balance with gold and platinum mean time adjustment screws, micrometric regulator with swan's neck spring, trip release for the repeating chimes from a button on the crown, polished steel hammers striking on gong rods, straight line damaskeened finish with gold lettering Signed: triple signed Patek Philippe & Cie. cuvette and movement also signed Bohm-Allen Co. Denver Colo., 97.6 grams gross weight This exceptional timepiece is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives which lists the year of manufacture as 1904 and the date of sale as September 8th, 1905. The standard means of supplying power to repeat hammers is achieved by a slide bar on the rim which winds a small spring. By this means, the repeat function will need winding again for the next chiming sequence. Trip repeaters such as this example are much more advanced and complex. Using a double barrel system with tandem winding and a longer spring for the repeating power, this timepiece chimes from a simple push of the trip button and the chiming function can be repeated several times before the spring needs to be re-wound. First introduced by Patek Philippe & Cie in 1900 and made for a 25 year period, these timepieces are very rare. The general consensus is that fewer than 30 examples are known.
