Item Details
Description
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe (pouring vessel) with a petite foot, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a cylindrical neck that gently flares into a trefoil-style pouring spout, and an applied strap handle that arches between rim and shoulder. The entire vessel - save areas just above and beneath the foot - are enveloped in lustrous glaze of a jet-black color, and traces of silvery iridescence have formed across some glazed surfaces. A gorgeous example of fine Apulian artistry! Size: 3.8" W x 6.2" H (9.7 cm x 15.7 cm).

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
