Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A petite gold signet ring with a red carnelian intaglio incised with what appears to be a tortoise design. In the Classical World, the tortoise was a symbol of fertility and an attribute of Venus (Greek Aphrodite) - the goddess of love and beauty. A beautiful example of ancient Roman jewelry. Gold quality: 98.7% gold - equivalent to 23K+. Size: intaglio measures .125" in diameter (0.3 cm); opening measures .625" W (1.6 cm); too petite to fit our ring sizer.
