Description
East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A lovely set of two hand-built pottery vessels covered in lustrous layers of glaze. The first vessel is a squat, apple-shaped jarlet with a carinated midsection, a thick, petite rim, and a lower body that tapers to form the planar base, all covered in celadon glaze. The larger vessel is a koro (incense burner) with a flared rim, a pair of lug handles shaped like the heads of Foo Dogs, and a protruding annular base, all covered in faint green, nearly white glaze. Both vessels are accompanied by individual modern wooden boxes with fabric tie straps. Size of largest (koro): 5.55" W x 2.75" H (14.1 cm x 7 cm); (accompanying wood box): 7.375" L x 7.4" W x 6.6" H (18.7 cm x 18.8 cm x 16.8 cm)
