Description
Blue silk with different decorative elements in polychrome and golden threads.
A long garment with a side fastening, cone-shaped sleeves, horse's hoof cuffs, gilt bronze buttons, box collar and open in the middle to the waist at the front and back.
These tunics were richly decorated with embroidered symbolic patterns. The following elements can be seen: at the bottom or base, oblique stripes, known as Shui Jiao (water base), above them, 'lishui' waves, followed by a mountain or rock divided into three pinnacles that emerge from the water and symbolise the Earth. The dragons flying through the clouds show authority and indicate a connection with the Imperial Court, which, together with the blue-black colour of the fabric, tells us that the wearer of this tunic was a court official.
Some of these items are kept in Museo de Artes Decorativas in Madrid.
135 cm high from shoulder to lower hem and 215 cm long from sleeve to sleeve.
