Description
A Carved wooden maskette with classic facial features, multiple holes, remnants of kaolin clay pigments and a long raffia grass beard. Such masks were used as clam emblems of the Bwami society, lega peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. The mask measures 7 x 3.5 inches ( 17.5 inches tall on custom display stand and adding the beard length. Provenance: Dr. Milton Gross, NY acquired at Park Bernet prior to 1968.
