Description
South Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely gathering of 5 cast-brass figures depicting horses, riders, or horses with riders. First is a standalone horse with an incised saddle. Second is a petite horse with a rider wearing a tiered cap. Third is a larger, more majestic horse with saddlebags, an incised mane, and a rider who holds his right arm out as if casting light from a lantern. Fourth is a standalone rider with bowed legs who brandishes a dagger in one hand. The largest piece is a pull toy where the rider grasps the reins of the horse in both hands. Size of largest (pull toy): 3.7" L x 2" W x 4.5" H (9.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Smallest horse with rider has a perforation on the back just behind the rider. Rider of majestic horse has loss right proper left arm as shown. Wheels of pull toy missing; smallest horse and standalone rider are intact and very good. Each piece has light abrasions and nicks, softening to finer details, and very light encrustations. Wonderful patina throughout.
