Description
"Evening Loch Assynt Sutherland" large oil on canvas by Alfred De Breanski (1848-1928). Fine original condition with only minor paint loss as shown. Approx. stretcher size: 24 1/2" x 29 1/2". A morning's perspective of Scotland's mist-covered Loch Assynt. Signed by this well listed United Kingdom artist. Alfred de Breanski Sr. was a British landscape painter, best known for his idyllic yet realistic depictions of rural Wales and Scotland. His works were exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Southampton City Art Gallery, The Royal Agricultural University Collection and Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries have holdings of his work. He had brother, Gustave de Breanski and a son Alfred de Breanski Jnr. who were also painters. In London, de Breanski routinely showed his painting at both the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, an alternative group chartered in 1887. He also exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, founded in 1882. As its name implies, the only artwork on display here was oil painting, but the organization attracted a variety of artists at its annual exhibitions, including de Breanski?s contemporaries, Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Walter Sickert as well as the French artists, Henri Fantin-Latour and Auguste Rodin. (The above bio is from Rehs Gallery, NYC, one of the top five American art gallery sources for the world's finest art).
