Pedro de Vargas (Montilla, Córdoba, 1553-?) Was a Jesuit brother and Spanish painter established in Peru. Born in Montilla, Pedro de Vargas left Seville for the New World as a soldier. In Lima, he joined the Society of Jesus in 1575 and learned painting with Bernardo Bitti, also a Jesuit. With Bitti he collaborated on the main altarpieces of the church of San Pedro de Lima and the church of the Company of Cuzco, all of which are works. lost.

He later worked in Potosí and in Quito where in 1591 he would have painted his Immaculate Conception with San Luis Gonzaga and San Estanislao de Kotska, preserved in the chapter house of the Quito Company and which, according to Mesa and Gisbert, is falsely attributed to Angelino Medoro.
