Description
A 19th Century Scientific Instrument or Mechanical Ellipsograph as it is known. Marked at side in an ellipse, " F. Bowly's Patent Jan'y 14. 1868". Made of Rosewood, brass, boxwood, etc. This antique, incredibly well made, drafting tool measures an overall 16" long. Patent records state that Franklin Bowly of Winchester, Virginia created this "Improvement in instruments for drawing ellipses". CONDITION: Excellent and apparently undamaged though it appears to us that someone has replaced one of the top screws. No breaks and complete as far as we can tell having little to no experience with the total function of this object.
