Description
William Steig (1907-2003) Illustration Art. 2 pencil on paper drawings, c. 1976, possible illustrations for The New Yorker magazine, for whom Steig was a famous illustrator of humorous cartoons. These amusing illustrations of a pharaoh and female pharaoh (or perhaps Cleopatra) almost certainly dates to 1976, when the traveling blockbuster exhibition "King Tut" appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, touching off a fad for all things related to Tut. Saugerties Antiques Gallery. Size: 5.5'' x 3.5'', 14 x 9 cm (sight); 12.75'' x 14.75'', 32 x 37 cm (frame). Provenance: Saugerties Antiques Gallery; Private Pennsylvania Collection.
